Product Line Engineer

WHO WE ARE: L3 Technologies Inc., GCS Division is a systems integration manufacturer whose products primarily include transportable small-aperture satellite terminals and systems, including antennas & positioners, RF equipment, satellite modems, terminal control electronics and software and associated ancillary equipment. These terminals are used predominantly in challenging environments where high reliability is imperative and simplicity of use is extremely important.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Engineer will have responsibility in the design and integration, repair and trouble-shooting of VSAT satellite based communications systems and products for L3 Communications. Working as part of the Product Line Engineering team, the Engineer will have responsibility for creating, tailoring and supporting VSAT terminal configurations in the standard product line, as well as special configurations required to support specific programs, working in conjunction with the GCS Program Management organization.
The Engineer will work as part a Product Line Engineering team to define, develop, test, validate and support L3 VSAT terminals. The Engineer will have responsibility as a member of the GCS Engineering team to support the GCS production department and customers by addressing issues with products and their assembly, test and usage throughout the product lifecycle. Ideally, the Engineer will have experience with VSAT systems, including terminal design/configuration, as well as troubleshooting and problem solving of complex problems with VSAT terminals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Fluency with VSAT terminals, functional elements and system configuration to meet specific requirements (frequency of operation, modem platform, etc.)
Ability to develop design & configuration documentation (engineering drawings, Bills of Materials, Specification Control Documents, etc.)
Hands on troubleshooting and integration skills using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum and network analyzers and active loads.
Hands-on fabrication skills with soldering and common power and hand tools.
Component and system level testing to validate performance of designs.
Contribute as a member of a project team with specific individual responsibilities for the design of terminals, sub-systems and/or components.
Integration of designed and fabricated analog hardware sub-systems with other software and components as part of a product development team.
Possessing poise, politeness, and confidence when communicating with customers, vendors, and peers.
Maintaining high levels of initiative, performance, professional demeanor and judgment.
Good judgment and decision-making capability, demonstrated ability to define and meet performance requirements
Able to effectively interface with engineers and representatives of vendors of sub-assemblies and components.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisory responsibilities in this position.

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) required, mechanical engineering (BSME) may be considered given applicable experience such as electromechanical product experience
A minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience in the development of electronic products, use of component management and release processes, mechanical and electrical design of communication systems and/or products.
Ability to obtain secret level DoD clearance is required. Company will assist with the processing.
Experience in installation, repair and/or use of satellite communications equipment
Control system experience
Experience managing the full-cycle of the product line
Active Secret clearance highly desired
Able to work independently and as part of a development team.
Able to effectively interface with technical colleagues and production personnel.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, understand and interpret electronic schematics, drawings and documentation. Excellent communication skills required, both verbal and written.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate ratio, percent, proportions, draw and interpret graphs. Ability to use engineering mathematics to solve problems.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and solve practical problems; deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to analyze complex problems and to derive recommended courses of action based on that analysis.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, talk, see and hear; use hands to finger, handle and feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is that of a typical professional engineering office with occasional exposure to dust, vapors, heat, cold and noise.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
